Theiler’s Disease
๐๐ก๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ซโ๐ฌ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐๐ฌ๐ is a mysterious disease that causes ๐๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ ๐ก๐๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ (rapid onset liver inflammation) in horses. Ultimately, this disease results in severe liver failure.

๐๐ก๐จ๐ญ๐ ๐ฎ๐ง ๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ฌ are a type of ammunition, which are basically small balls made of lead, steel or other metals. They are most commonly used in bird and game hunting.

Special Stain: Oil Red O
Oil red O is a red dye that specifically highlights ๐๐๐ญ๐ฌ, dying them a bright red colour. Most of our stains can be done on ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ (tissue preserved in formalin), but the fixation process actually removes all of the fat! So this stain must be done on fresh or frozen tissue.

Histoplasmosis
๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ is a fungal infection caused by ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฆ. This very tiny fungus is found worldwide, however it is most common in the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys.

๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐๐ฌ๐ is a viral disease that causes lumps on the skin (I know, shocking). This disease is most commonly seen in Africa.

Grass Awns
๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ฐ๐ง๐ฌ are the seeds of certain types of plants, which have characteristic barbs that allow them to embed into tissue. This is great for the plant, as it means their seeds are spread great distances, but it can be very bad for the animal!

Mesothelioma
๐๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ๐ is a tumour that arises from the ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ, the lining of the body cavities. These linings include the ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ (lining the thorax), the ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฆ (lining the abdomen) and the ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ซ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ (around the heart).

๐๐๐ข๐ง ๐ซ๐จ๐ญ is a bacterial infection of the skin, affecting many different species. It is also called ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐จ๐จ๐ฅ in sheep and ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ญ ๐ซ๐จ๐ญ in cattle. This disease can also transfer to humans!

Parasite-Derived Cancer
