𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 is an infection with the bacteria 𝐌𝐲𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐚 𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐦. As the name suggests, this bacteria primarily infects the sinuses of turkeys!

𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 refers to a mite infestation, and pulmonary refers to the lungs. Putting that together, pulmonary acariasis is a mite infestation within the lungs. Gross! 🤮

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 is a fungal infection caused by 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐦. This very tiny fungus is found worldwide, however it is most common in the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys.

𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐚 is a tumour that arises from the 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐮𝐦, the lining of the body cavities. These linings include the 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚 (lining the thorax), the 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐦 (lining the abdomen) and the 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 (around the heart).

𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 is a viral infection caused by a 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬. Thankfully, this coronavirus is not known to affect humans!

𝐉𝐚𝐚𝐠𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐞 is a virus that causes 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚, or tumours of the lining cells of the lungs. This disease is most commonly seen in Africa, Asia and Europe. Jaagsiekte is the Afrikaans name for this disease, meaning “sheep sickness”.

𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐠-𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 is a pretty interesting situation that can occur with lung tumours! In this syndrome, the tumour 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬 (spreads) to the toes, which is a pretty unusual place for metastases to end up!

𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 is a fungal infection found throughout the world, however we most commonly see cases in North America.

𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐲𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 is a group of issues that are very common in 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐲𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐬 (short-nosed) breeds of dogs and cats. These issues affect the animal’s ability to breathe.
