𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 is a viral disease caused by 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬, one of the major pathogens we vaccinate dogs for! In fact, our vaccination policies have been so successful that this disease is now considered rare in North America.

𝐎𝐫𝐟 is viral disease that can be found throughout the world! It also goes by the names 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐦𝐚 or 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬.

𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 are more scientifically known as 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬, and can be found all over the dog! We most commonly see them in the mouth, but they can even be found in places like the eye and skin.

𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫 is a 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬 that was first described in dogs, hence the name. However, we have since learned that this virus can infect multiple species of carnivores, including the large cats.

𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞 is more scientifically known as 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬, and is a viral infection affecting the upper respiratory tract. As the name might suggest, affected cattle often have a 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 (red) nose!

𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 is a viral infection of rabbits, as the name would suggest. This disease has been implicated in many massive mortality events in rabbits, with 90% of exposed rabbits dying from the disease.

𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐩𝐨𝐱 is a type of 𝐩𝐨𝐱𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬 affecting turkeys, hence the name.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 are small viruses that tend to infect the nucleus of cells they infect. There are many different types of parvoviruses, so today we will specifically talk about canine parvovirus, which is a common cause of diarrhea in dogs.
