𝐉𝐚𝐚𝐠𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐞 is a virus that causes 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚, or tumours of the lining cells of the lungs. This disease is most commonly seen in Africa, Asia and Europe. Jaagsiekte is the Afrikaans name for this disease, meaning “sheep sickness”.

𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐚 means big (macro-) mouth (stoma). Usually, this condition presents as the corners of the lips extending far into the cheek, giving the animal an appearance like the Joker.

𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐮, or avian influenza, is a viral infection that affects many different bird species. Recently, there have been outbreaks of the strain 𝐇𝟓𝐍𝟏 across the world, which has been devastating for poultry production and wildlife species.

𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐚 is a protozoan parasite that we most commonly associate with infectious abortion, however it can also cause 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 (whole body) disease with serious consequences!

𝐑𝐚𝐠𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭 plants contain the toxin 𝐩𝐲𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞, which causes liver damage. Other plant species that contain this toxin include 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 (rattleweed) and 𝐀𝐦𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐚 (tarweed).

𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 is an extremely common disease, caused by a bacterial infection. In this disease, the lymph nodes become infected (lymphadenitis) and turn cheesy (caseous). Yum
