Todayโ€™s special stain is ๐†๐Œ๐’!

This stain is primarily used to highlight ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ข. Fungi can be very difficult to see on our routine H&E stain, so this stain makes them much more obvious by dying them black against a light green background.

This image is a case of ๐๐ฒ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ข๐จ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฆ in the intestine of a dog. Pythium is a fungus found in standing water and soil, and is most known for causing large, ulcerated lumps on the skin. In the intestine, it causes the intestinal wall to thicken, leading to weight loss, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
