Todayโ€™s special stain is ๐š๐œ๐ข๐-๐Ÿ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง!

Acid-fast staining is a special technique used to identify certain types of bacteria that do not stain with Gram stain. These bacteria include ๐Œ๐ฒ๐œ๐จ๐›๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ, the genus that causes pretty serious diseases like tuberculosis and leprosy. This makes acid-fast staining a very important member of our special stain library! The stain highlights these bacteria in bright pink, so they stand out against the blue background.ย
