๐๐๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ are a ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐ (roundworm) that affect primarily aquatic birds. They are usually found in the ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ, the โtrue stomachโ of bird species.

This disease primarily affects aquatic birds such as ducks, herons, cranes and shorebirds.

Eggs of Tetrameres are passed in the feces of infected birds, and are ingested by grasshoppers or cockroaches. The insects are then eaten by a bird, allowing development of the eggs within the proventriculus.

In most cases, Tetrameres infections do not cause any issues. However, they can cause thickening of the proventricular wall that obstructs the lumen of the stomach. Affected birds can have diarrhea, emaciation and death.

Diagnosis typically involves fecal examination to identify the eggs of Tetrameres.
