Case 17: Peanut

An owner rushes her cat Peanut into your ER. She found her cat laying on the bathroom floor having difficulty breathing. She also noticed that the medicine cabinet was open. Since finding her, Peanut’s paws and face have started to swell.

Physical Exam
Peanut is extremely depressed on presentation. Her paws and face are severely swollen. You notice that her mucous membranes are pale and brownish tinged. Her respiratory rate is 60 bpm with no abnormal sounds. You are unable to count her heart rate very accurately, but you think it is around 300 bpm. Her temperature is 38.0ºC (100.4ºF).
